Building Community One Person at a Time
We have long believed that the private sector has a powerful role to play in furthering social good. It was this fundamental belief that inspired the foundation of the Neighborhood Network Center (NNC). A 501(c)(3) organization, NNC was established in 1998 by UHM Properties’ founding partners and its residents. Through NNC, we are able to expand opportunity by using innovative programs and services that foster personal, educational, and community development.
As our business has grown, so has our commitment to the communities where we live and work. Twenty years after its founding, NNC remains committed to partnering with public and private organizations to address known gaps in access and opportunity. By maintaining strong, sustainable living environments, UHM Properties strives to reinforce resident pride and a strong sense of community.
NNC: Programs, Services, and Activities
Strong communities are fortified by anchor institutions that provide the necessary resources for the continued growth and development of the people living in the neighborhood. UHM Propieties’ Neighborhood Network Center Inc. works as an access point to create and promote a culture of wellness, vitality, and success for every major stage and milestone of life.
For Youth
NNC offers enrichment programs for school age youth and young adults that reinforce classroom learning and promote leadership development.
In summer 2015, NNC hosted the first Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom Schools program site in Boston—only the second in the state of Massachusetts. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, CDF Freedom Schools programs feature a model curriculum for reading enrichment, youth leadership development, cultural awareness, parent empowerment, civic engagement, and social action.
At the NNC CDF Freedom Schools Summer Program, the youth scholars participate in a range of activities designed for both education and recreation. The activities focus on building and sustaining literacy skills, creative arts, health and fitness, and science and technology. Every Friday the group enjoys offsite day trips to local cultural attractions and theme parks.
For Families
NNC understands how social and economic stress can impact families. Our expert case managers and our broad referral network of family-centric service providers serve to strengthen family bonds and support family stabilization. Our programs, services, and activities include: trauma support referrals, child care voucher referrals, serving as a Lannie’s Diaper Bank and Toys for Tots affiliate site, Coats for Kids program, family movie night, resident appreciation day, and more.
For Working Age Adults
NNC supports working age adults in their efforts to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for 21st century career fields that lead to self-sufficiency. Our programs, services, and activities include: Emerge Institute, resume development, college and trade school admissions support, financial training, career coaching, networking opportunities, and more.
For Seniors
NNC strives to support seniors in maintaining their quality of life and independence. Our programs, services, and activities include: Golden Academy ,holiday gift cards and meals, , senior safety workshops, senior pamper days, referrals, access to the MBTA Ride Program, a “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren” support group, and more.
NNC Partners
In the work we do at NNC, it certainly “takes a community” to provide the numerous and varied resources to our residents and neighborhoods. We extend our sincere gratitude to the following organizations and programs for aligning with our mission and supporting us so generously.
